Travelling to Germany

We booked the 2: 50 flight from Mumbai to Frankfurt and then a connecting flight to Hannover. We were to then board one of the regional trains to Braunschweig. Three of us reached the airport from Campus around 11. I had made a lot of plans on how to use the onboard entertainment to its fullest - watch at least 3 movies - one of them the House of Gucci. But I fell asleep just 10 minutes into the movie; woke up to see the murder of Gucci done and breakfast being served on the flight.

We reached Hannover at around 8 40 local time and we had to catch our next flight that was to depart at 9:20. My friend and I reached the boarding gate well before but 3 of us got delayed because of a long queue at the security check-in at Hannover. The two of us boarded the flight and reached Frankfurt. We then took an ICE train from Hannover to Braunschweig (missed a train in between due to a delay) and reached Braunschweig at around 12 pm.

We then hopped on a bus to Hamburger Straube as directed by our advisor. Since the address sent to us by her just mentioned that the dorm was across the bus stop but never mentioned which direction, we ended up spending an hour and a half asking people around in whatever german we could make up for "Rebenring 64". Eventually, we reached our dorm and ran into our advisor waiting with a box of utensils and cutlery for us to cook with.

We reached our room, unpacked, and then went out for pizza for lunch at the nearest shop offering vegetarian, First Appetite. I was a bit in awe of the cost ( 3,50 Euros ) but little did I realize that that was the cheapest lunch I would have in 3 months. Falafels; Bretzels; Ice Cream all sell at 4 Euros or higher. It was the time after the pandemic so we were facing severely inflated prices.

After lunch, we went on a tour of a lovely garden nearby our dorm, witnessed a small wedding, a flock of ducks ( even attempted to catch one :) ), and took a few photos near some beautiful dandelions. The garden was filled with small makeshift hills that we learned were made with the rubble generated from the bombings during WWII. It also had a statue of mathematician Gauss ( the n(n+1)/2 guy ).

After an hour, I hit the bed only to wake up at 10:30. Three of us stepped out in the chilling weather to find dinner. it was then we realized all shops in Germany close at around half past 9!

We went to a nearby supermarket REWE and bought bread. We boiled up a ready-to-eat Dal Makhani packet and hit the bed again famished.
